Ways of Giving
There are many ways to get involved, including gifts of time, monetary donations, and other assets.
If you choose to make a donation, keep in mind that your gift will be directed to any area of CFIS that is of particular interest to you.
If you wish to volunteer your time or expertise, please contact us at 604.822.9274 or visit Alumni Affairs.
Other gifts can include the following:
Cash, Cheques, Credit Cards
We welcome gifts of cash in any value or currency. If you choose to donate a gift of cash, you will receive a donation receipt for the full amount of your gift. Please visit our Opportunities to Give page to review our priority projects or contact us at 604.822.9274 to development a gift for another project.
Securities
We accept donations of securities or shares. Publicly traded securities include shares, bonds, and mutual funds. Donating publicly traded securities directly to UBC rather than donating the cash proceeds from the sale of these same securities creates substantial tax savings. In the May 2, 2006 federal budget, the government announced the elimination of the capital gains tax on such donations. This means even more tax savings for donors.
Gifts of Other Assets (Gifts-in-kind)
A gift-in-kind is a non-cash donation and includes items such as personal effects, artwork, and real estate. Tax receipts for the fair market price are issued once the gift has been appraised.
Planned Gifts and Bequests
Planned Giving is the choice to make a charitable donation that is deferred into the future or the time of one’s passing. Planned gifts have unique tax implications, and we would be pleased to work with you to ensure your best interests are considered when creating a gift. Planned gifts include charitable remainder trusts; bequests and wills; insurance policies; and annuity plans.
