Djavad Mowafaghian: helping future generations around the world
The Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation contributed $4M toward biodiversity outreach and early childhood development research at UBC. These gifts are the foundation’s inaugural contributions to the university. Regarding children as the most precious gift given to humankind, Djavad Mowafaghian established a foundation to help future generations.
With a mandate to better the lives of children through health and education, the djavad mowafaghian foundation has made a significant difference in the lives of many. The foundation has built close to 30 schools in Iran, and it has supported many organizations in British Columbia.

Assoc. Prof. Amanda Vincent, Project Seahorse Director
Using seahorses to focus its efforts, Project Seahorse is an interdisciplinary and international organization committed to conservation and sustainable use of the world’s coastal marine ecosystems. With the support of individual donors, corporations, foundations, and government agencies, Project Seahorse has contributed an international trade accord and advised public aquarium and aquaculture ventures internationally. Dr. Amanda Vincent’s work as Director has earned her the Pew Fellowship, the Rolex Award for Enterprise, and a nomination for the Indianapolis Prize for outstanding achievement in animal conservation.
