Prospective Students
Welcome to UBC College for Interdisciplinary Studies (CFIS). We're like a faculty with a Principal (instead of a Dean) and some faculty members (most jointly appointed with other faculties), but our mandate to "support interdisciplinarity across UBC" is what makes us unique, and our mandate broader than other faculties. CFIS was created from the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FoGS) in January 2007, but our graduate programs have been around for much longer. We currently have over 300 graduate students enrolled. We don't currently host any undergraduate programs at CFIS.
FoGs still handles graduate admissions, so after you've contacted our graduate program staff about CFIS programs you may be interested in (see Graduate Programs), you may want to contact a FoGS admissions officer about admission requirements, deadlines, fees etc. for the program you want and for UBC overall. See How to Apply for more.
CFIS is constantly evolving as we incubate new programs. Our two newest programs are the Genome Science & Technology Program, which received Ministry approval in August, 2010 and the Sustainable Building Science Program, which had its first intake of students in September 2011.
Note: the Interdisciplinary Studies Graduate Program (ISGP) is still managed by FoGS, so please contact the ISGP program staff directly for more information.
